This year, members of the Department of Human Biology, Chemistry, and Methods of Teaching Chemistry at Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor O.M. Babеnко, and Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Yu.V. Kharchenko, participated in a grant competition organized by the Visegrad Fund. This endeavour culminated in success at the beginning of autumn with the V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant awarding. The project is co-financed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia through the Visegrad Grants of the International Visegrad Fund.
The International Visegrad Fund is an international donor organization established by the governments of the Visegrad Group (V4) countries – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Its goal is to support more profound understanding and cooperation among people in the V4 region, as well as between the V4 region and other countries and regions, particularly in the Eastern Partnership countries that are not part of the EU and the Western Balkans. The Fund promotes civil society development through funding joint grant projects, providing university scholarships, and offering art residencies.
The V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant project aims to enhance research skills on sustainable development and promote environmental thinking among young scientists. It brought together students from Ukraine (Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko), Slovakia (University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava), and Poland (Pomeranian University in Słupsk) for collaboration on innovative green solutions through intercultural exchange and practical learning.
From September to October 2024, organizational meetings were held between participants and coordinators of the international grant. The International School Program and the details of various events were discussed during these meetings. Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko was represented by project team members – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor L.P. Mironets, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Yu.V. Kharchenko, and Project Coordinator Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor O.M. Babеnко. The project coordinator at Pomeranian University in Słupsk was Dr. Habil., Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of Biology at Pomeranian University in Słupsk, Halina Tkaczenko. At the same time, from the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, was PhD Vice-Dean for Science and International Relations at the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology, Dominika Veselényeová.
The V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant project included the organization of the international scientific school "Youth for Sustainable Environment", which took place from December 1 to 6, 2024, at the Institute of Biology of Pomeranian University in Słupsk, Poland. This event brought together young researchers from Ukraine, Poland, and Slovakia and served as an important platform for exchanging knowledge, ideas, and experiences in the field of environmental research.
Twenty-five students from Slovakia, Poland, and Ukraine, whose scientific interests and research are related to environmental sustainability issues, participated in the international scientific school.
The school program was rich and diverse, allowing the organizers to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Students had the opportunity to attend lectures and participate in workshops led by experts from Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine, who introduced them to current issues in sustainable development and modern methods of solving them. A special focus was placed on topics relevant to the Baltic Sea region, such as water pollution, biodiversity conservation, and climate change.
The organization of activities for students involved: Dr. Habil., Professor Halina Tkaczenko (Poland), Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Physiology at the Institute of Biology, Pomeranian University in Słupsk, Dr. Habil., Professor Natalia Kurhaluk (Poland), PhD, Associate Professor Martin Valica (Slovakia), and from Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko – Project Coordinator of the V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant, Head of the Department of Human Biology, Chemistry, and Methods of Teaching Chemistry, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor O.M. Babеnко, and Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Yu.V. Kharchenko (Ukraine).
During the lectures, experts addressed issues related to specific problems of plant species conservation, which occur in various regions of Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine, as well as possible solutions. Students were particularly interested in a lecture at the Herbarium of Pomeranian University in Słupsk on the technology of creating a digital herbarium, which allows for accumulating and preserving information for future generations and scientific research, and which serves as a repository for data on the biodiversity of the plant world of the Pomerania region, Poland in general, and beyond. The experts also introduced students to the results of their scientific studies, including water purification technology using an electrochemical method that removes both organic and inorganic pollutants as well as microplastic contaminants; monitoring studies on heavy metals and their impact on biological indicators of salmon species in the Baltic region; the growing issue of microplastic pollution in the environment and its impact on biological organisms; and the effects of environmental degradation on public health.
During excursions in the city of Słupsk and to the Baltic Sea coast in Ustka, the experts held a series of lectures and workshops on environmental monitoring studies, focusing on soil and water quality indicators, methods of organizing and conducting them, using portable laboratory equipment, and quick methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Students had the opportunity to get acquainted with Pomeranian University in Słupsk, its structure and faculties, library, scientific laboratories of the Institute of Biology and the Institute of Health, and learn about the research directions in ecology conducted by faculty and students of the university. The practical part of the school included field research, during which students collected data on environmental conditions and conducted ecosystem monitoring. These studies allowed young scientists to not only consolidate theoretical knowledge but also develop skills in teamwork and working with scientific equipment.
One of the key goals in organizing the school was to establish international exchange and collaboration. Students from three countries could learn about different approaches to solving ecological problems in different regions and countries, exchange experiences, and make new friends and partners for joint projects. This experience fostered in young people a sense of international solidarity and responsibility for the planet's future.
As a result of their participation in the school, students gained not only new knowledge and skills but also valuable experience in international collaboration. They formed their own perspectives on addressing specific environmental issues and were able to present their ideas during group work and discussions. Students also established connections with colleagues from other countries, opening up broad prospects for future collaboration.

Цьогоріч викладачі кафедри біології людини, хімії та методики навчання хімії СумДПУ імені А.С. Макаренка к.пед.н., доцент Бабенко О.М. та к.х.н., доцент Харченко Ю.В. взяли участь у конкурсі грантових заяв від Вишеградського фонду, яка на початку осені увінчалась успіхом – отриманням V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant. Проект співфінансують уряди Чехії, Угорщини, Польщі та Словаччини через Вишеградські гранти Міжнародного Вишеградського фонду (International Visegrad Fund).
Міжнародний Вишеградський фонд – це міжнародна донорська організація, заснована урядами країн Вишеградської групи (V4) (Чеської Республіки, Угорщини, Польщі та Словаччини). Його мета полягає в підтримці більш тісного розуміння та співпраці між людьми в регіоні V4, а також між регіоном V4 та іншими країнами та регіонами, особливо в країнах Східного партнерства, що не входять до ЄС, і на Західних Балканах. Фонд сприяє розвитку громадянського суспільства шляхом фінансування спільних грантових проектів та надання університетських стипендій та мистецьких резиденцій.
Проект V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant спрямований на підвищення навичок дослідження сталого розвитку та сприяння екологічному мисленню серед молодих науковців. Він об’єднав студентів з України (Сумський державний педагогічний університет імені А. С. Макаренка), Словаччини (Університет св. Кирила і Мефодія в Трнаві) та Польщі (Поморський університет в Слупську) для співпраці над інноваційними зеленими рішеннями шляхом міжкультурного обміну та практичного навчання.
Впродовж вересня – жовтня 2024 року відбулися організаційні зустрічі між учасниками та координаторами міжнародного гранту. Під час організаційних зустрічей було обговорено Програму Міжнародної школи та деталі проведення різноманітних заходів. Від СумДПУ імені А.С. Макаренка участь у зустрічах взяли члени проектної групи – к.пед.н., доцент Міронець Л.П., к.хім.н., доцент Харченко Ю.В. та координатор Проєкту – к.пед.н., доцент Бабенко О.М.
Від Поморського університету у Слупську координатором проєкту виступила д.б.н., професор, заступник директора Інституту біології Поморського університету в Слупську Галина Ткаченко, а від Університету св. Кирила і Мефодія у Трнаві – PhD, заступник декана з науки та міжнародних зв'язків Інститут біології та біотехнології Домініка Веселеньйова.
V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant предбачав організацію міжнародної наукової школи "Youth for sustainable environment", яка була реалізована з 1 по 6 грудня 2024 року на базі Інституту біології Поморського університету в Слупську (Польща). Цей захід, що об’єднав молодих дослідників з України, Польщі та Словаччини, став важливою платформою для обміну знаннями, ідеями та досвідом у сфері екологічних досліджень.
До участі в міжнародній науковій школі долучились 25 студентів зі Словаччини, Польщі та України, наукові інтереси та дослідження яких лежать у площинах, дотичних до проблем сталості довкілля.
Програма школи була насиченою та різноманітною та дозволила організаторам поєднувати теоретичні знання з практичними навичками. Студенти мали можливість прослухати лекції та взяти участь в майстеркласах експертів з Польщі, Словаччини та України, які ознайомили їх з актуальними проблемами сталого розвитку та сучасними методами їх вирішення. Особливий акцент був зроблений на проблемах, актуальних для регіону Балтійського моря, таких як забруднення вод, збереження біорізноманіття та зміна клімату.
В організації активностей для студентів взяли участь: заступник директора Інституту біології Поморського університету в Слупську, д.б.н., професор Галина Ткаченко (Польща) завідувачка кафедри фізіології тварин Інституту біології Поморського університету у Слупську, д.б.н., професор Наталія Кургалюк (Польща), від Університету св. Кирила і Мефодія у Трнаві – PhD, доцент Мартін Валіца (Словаччина), від СумДПУ імені А.С. Макаренка – координатор проєкту V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant, завідувачка кафедри біології людини, хімії та методики навчання хімії, к.пед.н., доцент Олена Бабенко та к.х.н., доцент Юлія Харченко (Україна). Під час лекцій зі студентами експерти висвітлювали питання, пов’язані з окремими проблемами збереження видового різноманіття рослинного світу, які мають місце в різних регіонах Польщі, Словаччини та України, та можливими варіантами їх вирішення. Особливе зацікавлення у студентів викликала лекція в Гербаріумі Поморського університету щодо технології створення цифрового гербарію, яка дозволяє накопичувати інформацію та зберегти її для наступних поколінь та наукових досліджень і яка є осередком акумуляції даних про біологічне різноманіття рослинного світу Поморського краю, Польщі загалом, і не тільки. Також експерти познайомили студентів із результатами своїх наукових досліджень: технологією очищення води за допомогою електрохімічного методу, який дозволяє видаляти не тільки домішки органічних та неорганічних забруднювачів, але й домішок мікропластику; результатами моніторингових досліджень вмісту важких металів та впливу їх на біологічні показники лососевих риб Балтійського регіону; проблему зростання мікропластику в навколишньому середовищі та впливу його на біологічні об’єкти; проблеми впливу погіршення стану навколишнього середовища на здоров’я населення. Під час екскурсій по м. Слупськ та до узбережжя Балтійського моря у м. Устка експерти провели серію лекцій та майстер-класів, присвячених питанням моніторингових досліджень фізико-хімічних показників якості довкілля, зокрема показників ґрунту та води, методик їх організації та проведення, використання портативного лабораторного обладнання та експрес-методик якісного та кількісного аналізу.
Студенти мали змогу познайомитись з Поморським університетом в Слупську, його структурою та факультетами, бібліотекою, науковими лабораторіями Інституту біології та Інституту здоров’я, познайомитися з напрямками наукової діяльності екологічного спрямування викладачів і студентів університету.
Практична частина школи включала в себе польові дослідження, під час яких студенти збирали дані про стан довкілля та проводили моніторинг екосистем. Ці дослідження дозволили молодим вченим не тільки закріпити теоретичні знання, але й розвинути навички роботи в команді та з науковим обладнанням.
Одним з ключових напрямків в організації школи було налагодження міжнародного обміну та співпраці. Студенти з трьох країн мали можливість познайомитися з різними підходами до вирішення екологічних проблем в різних регіонах і країнах, обмінятися досвідом та знайти нових друзів і партнерів для спільних проектів. Цей досвід сприяв розвитку у молодих людей почуття міжнародної солідарності та відповідальності за майбутнє планети.
У результаті участі в школі студенти отримали не тільки нові знання та навички, але й цінний досвід міжнародної співпраці. Вони сформували власне бачення щодо вирішення конкретних екологічних проблем, і мали змогу презентувати його під час роботи в групах та обговорень. Крім того, студенти налагодили зв’язки з колегами з інших країн, що відкриває широкі перспективи для подальшої співпраці.

Маємо надію, що завдяки International Visegrad Fund та реалізованому проєкту V4 Generation Mobility Mini-Grant, налагоджена співпраця між нашими трьома країнами та університетами буде продовжена, що дозволить в подальшому розвивати спільні ініціативи в галузі екологічних досліджень та сталого розвитку.
